Athletics Veritas is a weekly series aimed at helping higher education executives, faculty, and other stakeholders stay tuned in on trending national issues impacting college athletics, especially NCAA Division I. Athletics Veritas is created by senior DI athletic administrators around the nation.

Term-in-Ology: May an incoming freshman with a pending NCAA Eligibility Center certification receive complimentary admissions to their team’s competitions?

Although a freshman student-athlete who arrives for preseason practice may do so for up to 45 days while their academic initial eligibility certification gets processed, such an individual may not receive the full number (four) of complimentary admissions to their team’s competitions.

The NCAA staff has noted that the student-athlete in question, though, could receive one complimentary ticket for his or her own use to attend the event.
