Mike Babcock will represent NCAA DII, joins five other newly elected coaches on the association's board

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - McKendree University football head coach Mike Babcock was elected to the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Board of Trustees as announced by the AFCA on Monday afternoon. Babcock will be an NCAA Division II representative and is one of six new members of the board for 2023.

Babcock finished his 10th season at the helm of the Bearcats with a 53-46 overall record while holding a second place Great Lakes Valley Conference finish in 2015 (8-2) and a third place finish in 2016 (8-3). This past season, the Bearcats finished 5-6 overall with 14 All-GLVC honorees, including the unanimous GLVC Offensive Player of the Year in senior quarterback Turner Pullen. In addition to the All-GLVC selections last fall, McKendree added eight College Sport Communicators Academic All-District team and one Academic All-American in senior receiver Jacob Bachman. Babcock also lays claim to leading the Bearcats to their first winning season in their NCAA DII era in 2015 while also earning the first-ever DII coaches poll vote in November of 2015.

Prior to coming to McKendree, Babcock held an assistant coach role at Colorado State-Pueblo for five seasons, including four as the quarterbacks and passing game coordinator. He also spent time with the University of San Diego as the tight end and director of football operations, the University of Colorado as an assistant on the offensive line, tight end, and special team staff. Babcock began his coaching career at his alma mater, UCLA, serving as a graduate assistant in a myriad of coaching roles. He played for the Bruins in 1997 and 1998 before becoming a program assistant, helping the squad to a pair of PAC-10 titles.

Babcock joins the AFCA Board of Trustees along with five other coaches, including: Tulane University head coach Willie Fritz (American Athletic Conference), University of New Mexico head coach Danny Gonzales (Mountain West Conference), University at Buffalo head coach Maurice Linguist (Mid-American Conference), Oregon State University head coach Jonathan Smith (PAC-12), and University of South Alabama head coach Kane Wommack (Conference USA).
