Claflin Athletics Welcomes Dionne McCollum as Associate Director of Athletics/Compliance Director

ORANGEBURG, SC - The Claflin University Department of Athletics got a big boost with the addition of Mrs. Dionne McCollum as its Associate Athletics Director and Director of Compliance. With a strong foundation in collegiate athletics and a passion for the guidance and development of young people, Mrs. McCollum will be a welcome addition to the Claflin University family.
 
"I am extremely excited to join the Claflin University family. I look forward to bringing my unique thought process and administrative style to panther athletics," McCollum said. "My goal is to have a positive impact on Panther student-athletes, campus, and community."
 
McCollum comes to Claflin University after serving as the Director of Athletics at Delta College, a part of Region XII in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). Among her numerous duties as Director of Athletics at Delta College, she was also solely responsible for ensuring that Pioneer athletics remained in good standing with the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). From letters of intent, hardship waivers, certification of eligibility, etc., McCollum oversaw all levels of compliance. In addition to her duties with Delta College, she was also appointed to the NJCAA Eligibility Committee. 
 
Prior to beginning her career at the collegiate level, McCollum spent six years as the Athletic Director for the District of Columbia public schools. During her tenure, she oversaw four different sports and 140 coaches.
 
Working in collegiate athletics is nothing new to McCollum. She has been a part of the women's basketball coaching staffs at schools at the NCAA Division II, NAIA, and NJCAA Division I levels.
 
McCollum's experience extends to the classroom as well as she taught athletic injury and prevention courses as an adjunct professor and she also served as the strength & conditioning coach for the Academy of Oak Park in Oak Park, Michigan.
 
In addition to some tremendous experiences, McCollum has built her career from a strong educational background. She is a graduate of Wayne County Community College with an Associate in Science (2003) degree, and she is a 2005 graduate of Kentucky State University where she earned a Bachelor's degree in Physical Education. She has also earned a Master's degree in Athletic Training from the University of Findlay (2007) and she is currently pursuing a Doctorate degree in Sports Leadership from Concordia University of Chicago.
 
She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated, the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA), Women Leaders in College Sports (WLCS), and Minority Opportunities Athletic Association (MOAA).
 
She is married to Dominic McCollum and they are the parents of three children: Demi, Dominic, Jr, and Dule'.
