#10: Missouri AD Reed Francois goes with UNLV Volleyball HC Sullivan for the same role in Columbia. (link)

#9: CBS’ Norlander chronicles Massachusetts MBB HC Martin’s career path, pointing out that the latest stop in Amherst was a family decision in an industry that often has little mercy for coaches’ loved ones. Martin: “That’s the part very few people understand. Everyone thinks, because we get paid a lot of money…change? What's he complaining about?" Martin contends there were significant efforts put into pushing him out of South Carolina in 2021, telling Norlander: “They tried, but they couldn’t. The negativity got so big, because people on the inside were leaking stuff to the media about me getting fired. Once you create that negative energy, anything short of an NCAA bid, you're not changing it. … After 10 years I've given them the winningest years in the history of the school. And I do things right, I don't cheat in the world. My guys all graduate, all go to class, they don't get arrested, there's no issues. Just call me in and say, 'Frank.' Treat me like a man, that's all I ever asked. So my kids knew that scarred me." Martin uprooted his family again after taking the job at UMass, and he acknowledges there were “moments on eggshells because I get home, and I can feel the tension. The easy thing for me to do is say, 'I don't want to hear it.’ … But I can't do that. It's not fair to them. My wife gave up her career to help me chase money. When we met, she made more money than me. … She's more educated than I am. She's got a master's degree. And she gave it all up to help me chase my career." More. (link)

#8: UTSA FB HC Traylor Monday via Twitter: “Dear @NCAAFootball How does @UTSAFTBL report Power 5 Schools who are trying to poach our young talent? How much evidence do we really need to make this not be a part of our game?” (link)

#7: The Athletic’s Raynor & Navarro write on the journeys of Colorado FB commits, most of whom won’t be a part of the Buffs class as new HC Sanders takes the helm. A number say CU AD George told them their scholarship offers would be honored when former HC Dorrell was released. George follows-up: “Any time there’s a coaching transition, many changes occur throughout the program. Every new coaching staff has the opportunity to do what’s best for the team, and despite the unfortunate timing of the current recruiting calendar, difficult decisions were made as timely as possible.” (link)

#6: The Daily Princetonian reports that three university DEI athletics staffers have resigned since September 2021, citing what they claim has been a lack of systemic support from the administration. Former Assoc. AD for DEI Turner, who stepped down in May, tells the student newspaper: “Folks like myself are treated like we’re on an assembly line. You hire us, you fire us, and you bring someone else in, and people will just stay in their roles of leadership and get away with it. … When I first started, I felt some support [from Athletics], and then once I got on campus, that quickly changed. Some of my fellow colleagues with little background in DEI were quick to push back on trusting my more than 10 years of experience in this work.” Lots more. (link)

#4: SBJ’s Smith reports the final four candidates in the NCAA President search consisted of three with notable backgrounds in politics “either as a governor or senator,” plus one traditional profile “who previously was an AD.” Further: “Tom McMillen, a former U.S. Congressman and now president and CEO of LEAD1, the AD trade association, also was approached about the position. [...] The priority that was placed on having a working knowledge of governmental wheeling and dealing reflects just how much the NCAA expects to lean on Congress for help with creating a new model for college athletics.” (link)

#3: Oklahoma AD Castiglione has a tradition of gathering with OU staffers who are part of road game traveling parties for breakfast during the trip. Castiglione on Joe C’s Breakfast Club: “It wasn’t anything other than just finding the best local breakfast, and then it just kind of grew into this tradition.” If you’re looking for recommendations, the group keeps a spreadsheet that includes Big 12 locales, plus other places OU teams have traveled for non-conference games and postseason contests. Rules: any staff member is invited, but no chain restaurants allowed and unofficially, no talk about work. (link)
