Big Chair Changes:

+ Truman State AD Jerry Wollmering will depart after a quarter-century leading the Bulldogs to become the Senior Assoc. AD/CFO at Northern Iowa (DI). Wollmering is set to begin his new role in Cedar Falls later this week. (link)

New Texas Permian Basin AD Scott Larson was introduced earlier this week. Asked about the opportunities ahead for the Falcons: “Facilities and scholarships, getting our sports full funded in one of the top conferences in the country is important. We want to give our athletes the opportunity to be competitive. Winning is fun. It’s not at all cost but it’ll lead to a good experience for our athletes. […] We’ve seen a lot of changes over the last couple of years with the NIL and transfer portal and of course, we need to take care of ourselves with our facilities. We better get to work on facilities and campus beautification so that we don’t get left behind.” On facilities, Larson says UTPB will look at external funding sources as it looks to upgrade all facilities, adding: “All of them need work to be up to Lone Star Conference standards. The Lone Star Conference is arguably the best conference in D-II sports at a lot of different levels. UTPB has proven its success from last year and imagine what could happen with improved facilities. That’s priority number one.” More. (link)

MIAA Commissioner Mike Racy sits down with KQ2’s Chris Roush to dive into a number of topics, including the conference’s new TV partner, the D2CCA Women’s Basketball Tip-Off and more. The MIAA Football Game of the Week on Kansas City’s 38 The Spot will feature 11 games this season, starting with Ferris State and Pittsburg State. Racy: “It gives our football programs an advantage. There's really no other conference in Division II that has this type of a television opportunity – a game of the week showcasing its stadiums, its facilities. For each of our home teams, it's going to really turn into a three-hour public service announcement about that institution.” As the host for the D2CCA Women’s Basketball Tip-Off, Racy says doing so gives MIAA members an advantage. “Our Women’s Basketball coaches, our Women’s Basketball student-athletes deserve to play in these types of events. They deserve to play in them close to home where it’s not a huge expense for them to go on the road and do it. Maybe the most important thing, it gives them two more games, exempt events that don’t have to count against the maximum number, against some of the best competition in Division II. We do this tournament because we believe it gives our Women’s Basketball teams an advantage and those are the types of things a conference office can do to help position our teams for postseason success.” On the fallout from the House settlement, Racy believes there will be some spillover into DII. The Arthur Blank Family Foundation has granted over $6.5M to Albany State, Clark Atlanta, Miles and Savannah State to update their Football fields. U.S. District Court Judge Ada Brown has blocked the FTC’s ban on noncompete agreements, preventing the rule from taking effect in September. Brown ruled that the FTC lacked authority to issue substantive rules related to unfair methods of competition, including the noncompete rule, which would have prohibited companies from restricting their employees’ ability to work for rivals. FTC spokesperson Victoria Graham: “We are seriously considering a potential appeal, and today’s decision does not prevent the FTC from addressing noncompetes through case-by-case enforcement actions.” (link)
