#7: NSIC leaders have been debating the pros and cons of potentially switching to a league-wide pay-per-view model, having held a vote earlier this year that maintained all conference contests free to watch. Northern State AD Davis, who came from the MIAA, which projects to generate over $500K in subscription revenue this year, is a proponent: “I think it brings value to our product. [...] It’s a way to show the value, but also create value and revenue,” which could be reinvested in additional broadcast upgrades. On the flip side, Minnesota State Mankato AD Buisman and Minnesota State Moorhead AD Markuson, prefer the status quo, with Dragons leadership noting they generate revenue via sponsorships on their broadcasts and don’t want to turn away eyeballs that could ultimately generate engagement with the department in other ways. Commissioner Lind: “We’ve finally reached a point where schools are broadcasting at a pretty high standard. It has at least allowed us to broach the subject of pay-per-view. Five years ago we wouldn’t have been there, but we’re there now. We’ve got all of us at a high standard.” (link)
