#8: Dave Campbell’s Texas Football’s Cory Hogue writes on the future of the ASC, which he believes “will end after the 2025-26 academic year.” Hogue: “Every person associated with an ASC institution I’ve spoken to about the conference’s future has repeatedly said everything remains on the table. However, everything is kind of broad. What does that mean? “Everything“ is the answer I receive each time I ask for more information. Every scenario mentioned, except for one, would result in the end of the ASC. I didn’t see an exception until one source suggested that two SCAC schools that departed the ASC were offered millions of dollars to return to the conference. We’re not talking about life-changing money for the universities, but it’s enough money to get their attention.” As for where the ASC members could land, Hogue believes Howard Payne’s “most likely destination” is the SCAC and that East Texas Baptist “will eventually join the SCAC, but will not be without some resistance. Although, the Tigers joining the NAIA and the Sooner Athletic Conferece isn’t out of the question.” As for the two purple schools, as Hogue refers to them, Mary-Hardin Baylor and Hardin-Simmons have two choices: move to DI and join the Pioneer Football League or move to DII and join the Lone Star. The former is the most likely for UMHB, but would be most challenging from a competitive standpoint. On the latter: “Neither HSU nor UMHB prefers this option, which is why the dissolution of the ASC is taking so long. Neither you UMHB nor HSU fans, alarms, coaches, or administrators, want to offer athletic scholarships. However, it might be the only option that either school can afford financially, and remain competitive on the field.” (link)

Seagraves: “As I wind down my 44th year of college athletics I am so pleased that my last stop was Concordia University Texas. I have been blessed to have the support of the administration and a wonderful athletic department staff. I am thankful to Presidents' Christian and Kirk who brought me on board to lead the CTX department in 2015. Because of the faith they bestowed upon me to lead an amazing staff of coaches, athletic trainers, and sports information directors, I believe I leave Concordia in a good place. […] The athletic future of the Tornados is in a great place. Under the leadership of our next Athletic Director and Vice President Patrick Carlove many things are going to be accomplished to further the success of our teams and especially each student-athlete's experience. Both of these leaders are visionary and committed to building an even brighter outlook for Concordia University athletics.” (link)

#1: Northland announces it will close at the end of this academic year. Board of Trustees Chair Ted Bristol: “Despite the collaborative efforts of the entire Northland family, we no longer have the resources needed to navigate the economic and demographic storms endangering small, liberal arts institutions today. With declining enrollment and soaring costs, it takes more to operate the College than we raise in tuition. Even after enacting aggressive measures to cut costs and raise revenues, Northland College has no sustainable path forward.” (link); The UMAC is planning to go forward into 2025-26 as a seven-member league.
