Clark Atlanta selects Virgin Islands (NAIA) AD Drew as its new AD. Drew has been the AD at UVI for two years, with past experience at Elizabeth City State. (link)

The NCAA is investigating an altercation that broke out on the field at the end of the Ferris State at Grand Valley State FB quarterfinal. NCAA spokesperson Pierce: “The NCAA and the NCAA Division II Football Committee are aware of an incident that happened at the end of the Ferris St.-Grand Valley St. football game. They are currently gathering information and looking into the matter.” (link)

Facility Features:

+ Davis & Elkins is partnering with the Davis Trust Company to create the Davis Trust Company Player & Press Pavilion at Nuttall Field which will serve as the home for game operations and live streaming. Construction is set to begin in the spring. (link) 

+ Minnesota-Crookston Chancellor Holz-Clause issued a statement with the Crookston School Board set to vote on a proposed multi-use athletics complex, noting the institution has no plans to sell the property Ed Widseth Field sits on. “The University recognizes the school district’s needs and financial limitations. We have explored several alternatives, in each case offering our commitment to provide the school district with affordable, long-term use of the property. Some of those alternatives included a 20-year lease with renewable leases up to 50 years. We also offered to remove the existing track, at the University’s full expense, if the school district wanted to construct a new one. The school district did not pursue any of those alternatives. We have practical reasons to keep the property. We remain willing and open to any of the alternatives previously suggested, or to new proposals the district might have, that would allow each organization to achieve its respective goals.” (link)

AthleteTalk founder Gill joins D1.ticker/Connect's Garcia Cichosz to talk about how student-athletes and athletic departments are tapping into his app to address mental health and wellness issues relevant to athletes. The app, inspired by social media feeds and the prioritization of visual elements, commenting and sharing and includes wellness plans on issues like social justice, loss and race. Gill also discusses his use of NIL to promote the app and increase mental health transparency among athlete communities. Gill: "We have to figure out how [mental health resources] can appeal to young people. We know that social media is important to young people, we know that social media has been proliferated with different wellness and mental health messages... AthleteTalk combines this social media frenzy with wellness and inspiration, to combine those two to try to appeal to young people." (link)
