NSIC leaders have been debating the pros and cons of potentially switching to a league-wide pay-per-view model, having held a vote earlier this year that maintained all conference contests free to watch. Northern State AD Davis, who came from the MIAA, which projects to generate over $500K in subscription revenue this year, is a proponent: “I think it brings value to our product. [...] It’s a way to show the value, but also create value and revenue,” which could be reinvested in additional broadcast upgrades. On the flip side, Minnesota State Mankato AD Buisman and Minnesota State Moorhead AD Markuson, prefer the status quo, with Dragons leadership noting they generate revenue via sponsorships on their broadcasts and don’t want to turn away eyeballs that could ultimately generate engagement with the department in other ways. Commissioner Lind: “We’ve finally reached a point where schools are broadcasting at a pretty high standard. It has at least allowed us to broach the subject of pay-per-view. Five years ago we wouldn’t have been there, but we’re there now. We’ve got all of us at a high standard.” (link)

Connect/MB Sports’ Banker talks with mental skills advisor Santore, commonly known as Coach Dar, about mental fitness and the “crisis of comfort” among college student-athletes. Santore goes deep, including on how coaches can develop student-athletes’ resiliency, the impact of social media, the importance of coping skills and lots more. Santore on the growth of on-demand student-athlete help & a plethora of tech solutions: “...if we do not allow them to learn certain life skills along the way, then how have we really served the student-athlete not just for sport, but for life. We haven’t. So, we want them to be able to have the ability and the responsibility to be able to handle things and learn aspects of life, learn how to cope with it. Point Loma MBB HC Logie will exit for the same role at Montana State (DI). Logie went 82-23 in four seasons with three PacWest titles. (link)

Western Colorado taps West Liberty MBB AC Lamberti as the Mountaineers’ next HC. WCU AD Van Hee: "Mike is absolutely one of the most progressive, up and coming coaches in Division II. Extra Points purveyor Brown outlines what’s ahead for EP as the publication celebrates its third birthday. First, Brown notes there will be a focus on expanding D1.classroom, a sports management curriculum-support product designed to help overworked instructors. As a supplement to that product, EP is hard at work turning the AD Simulator 3000 “into an actual, Honest-To-God Computer Game that we plan to roll out to our D1.classroom partners first. The Current’s Gerson examines the growth of cheerleading and its potential path to becoming sanctioned by the NCAA, pointing out that recognition as a sport by the IOC was an important first step in that process. Trinity Valley Community College Cheer co-HC Franklin, whose team was made famous on the Netflix documentary Cheer, believes being added as an Olympic sport could serve as a “final goal” for student-athletes, who have little in the way of professional cheerleading opportunities. North Florida (DI) HC Mills adds: “I really just think it all comes down to the money at the end of the day, because even schools where you see a cheer team with national championship after national championship, it would still be a 50-50 bet on whether or not that cheerleading program feels that they are fully supported by their university. I don’t think Olympic classification will change that.” (link)
