Upper Iowa will join the GLVC as a full-time member for 2023-24. Commissioner Naumovich: “Their addition to the GLVC for the 2023-24 academic year will expand the league’s geographic footprint into the state of Iowa and provide scheduling stability for sports such as football and wrestling. Upper Iowa boasts outstanding leadership from President Bill Duffy and Vice President for Athletics Rick Hartzell and embraces the Division II attributes that our current members value.” Duffy: “The GLVC is comprised of institutions similar in size and scope to UIU and joining the conference will open up new strategic opportunities for the University.” (link); NSIC Commissioner Lind, who notes UIU will remain eligible for championships this academic year: “Upper Iowa’s candid approach through this process, along with open lines of communication between the GLVC and NSIC has provided us the opportunity to be prepared for this news.” (link)

NCAA correspondent Katz sits down with VP of DII Steeb Gronau, NCAA Director of Championships & Alliances Kirsch and Seattle Pacific AD Stava to discuss this week’s DII Festival as around 1K S-As flock to Seattle. Stava on the challenge of hosting amidst controversy on the SPU campus and what a successful event looks like: “I think the biggest thing that we're doing honestly is we are embracing the challenge. We know that we have to rise to a level that's different than others because of some of the challenges that have been on our campus with our board and we are having those conversations actively every day, as we have been for the last 18 months because we know that we have to have a higher bar than maybe others have in the past we're going to do that. … A successful event for me will be one where student-athletes walk away and they feel as celebrated as they have at every other championship they've ever stepped into.” More. Buckel: "I wasn't considering leaving Fontbonne or college campus but the more that we talked over months and the more I learned about the dynamic team, the more I knew that I wanted to be part of the vision that the team's working towards. Professionals are so stretched right now in higher ed and often do not have the time to prioritize the things in their lives and their work that they'd like to and I'm excited to join a team that's trying to fill those gaps in the industry that can allow them greater flexibility to determine how to make their time the most fulfilling they can." The Eastern District of California will be in the spotlight, as it is there that another antitrust lawsuit has been filed against the NCAA. This one, according to Tulane Sports Law Professor Feldman, “accuses them of conspiring to limit compensation to baseball coaches by capping the number of paid coaches.” (link)

With Lincoln (MO) set to receive a full state match for its federal land grant in the institution’s history, President Moseley indicates the Blue Tigers are planning to bring Baseball back to Jefferson City by the 2024 season. (link)

Texas-Permian Basin inaugural FB HC Carrigan will transition to a new role as Deputy AD. VP/AD Dooley: “Building a football program from the ground up is no easy task, and Justin has done it with class and dignity. His efforts have not gone unnoticed in building the program's foundation and setting them up for success in the years to come. We are excited to watch Justin excel in a new leadership role.” (link)

Michigan Tech did not renew the contract of FB HC Olson after six seasons. He will be succeeded by Assoc. HC Mettlach. AD Sanregret: “A quality football program is a valued part of Michigan Tech's history, and we're excited about the vision that Dan has to get us back to the top of the best NCAA Division 2 conference in the nation. Albany State will hire a new FB HC as HC Giardina has been named to the same position at Charleston Southern (DI). Giardina led the Golden Rams to a 37-17 record in five seasons at the helm. (link)
